NYX English Rose HD Grinding Blush

NYX English Rose HD Grinding Blush

My favorite part about the HD Grinding Blushes is how smooth and soft they are, without being powdery–they are finely milled and don’t poof! a puff of dust when you go to use them. The softness lends itself to effortless application, because it blends out easily and never looks overdone–but you have to trade-off color payoff for that. I only get around six hours of good wear with this product–by the seventh hour, it’s hardly visible any more.

The Glossover

NYX English Rose HD Grinding Blush ($16.00 for 0.25 oz.) is a pretty-in-pink shade of cotton candy pink, which leans a little blue Coach Outlet, and applies sheerly. It can be built to about medium intensity, but it’s not overly pigmented or intense. It is, overall, a lighter shade, and it has a subtle sheen that’s neither frosty or too reflective (so it does not emphasize pores). It is similar to MAC Briar Rose but a touch pinker. It is a little lighter than Illamasqua Chased. I imagine it is similar to MAC Well-Dressed as well.

Please consider reading my original review of NYX HD Grinding Blush for more, in-depth commentary on the packaging.

The Glossover

P.S. — Because of the special packaging, MAC has tacked on an extra dollar, so if you have access to the permanent versions in regular packaging, those are $20 each.

MAC Hey, Sailor Pigments ($21.00 for 0.15 oz.) include two shades: Naval Blue (deep smoky blue) and Old Gold (high frosted tarnished gold).  They are in special packaging with the naval stripes wrapping around the clear jar and have a glossy navy blue cap (as compared to the rubberized black cap of the regular packaging).  These were actually more user-friendly to use and didn’t seem to spill as much as the regular packaging, oddly enough.  Please note that neither shade is recommended for use in the lip area.

Where to Buy: MAC, $21.00 each

  • Naval Blue is a dark navy blue with a hint of purple–all of the blues in this launch seem to have this kiss of purple–that makes it a real pain to photograph, because sometimes it looks purpler than it ought! It’s similar to MAC Blue Storm, which came out this past fall (and was a repromote then). It’s also similar to Givenchy Lune Mordoree. For a more in-depth review, please read this review from February :) This shade is permanent at PRO stores.
  • Old Gold is a dirty brown-gold with a green flash. It’s softer, browner, and less metallic when applied dry. I couldn’t think of a dupe that has the same green tinge, but there are a few that resemble the gold hue. Maybelline Bold Gold is browner, less warm. NARS Paramaribo is similar but darker. Make Up For Ever #11 is greener, less brown. OCC Cruising is darker and browner. Le Metier de Beaute Chameleon is more muted, browner.

MAC Pigments are supposed to be long-wearing with special ingredients that enable it to adhere to the skin. I’ve tried several different shades damp over bare skin, and I typically get around eight hours of wear with minor creasing and fading. I prefer to use Pigments with MAC’s Mixing Medium, which is an adhesive base, and then I see flawless wear even after twelve hours. Over an eyeshadow primer, the wear is just about as good. Pigments can be used wet or dry, though they tend to intensify in color and in finish when applied damp or wet–but they do retain those qualities even after it dries.

Buxom Stay-There Eyeshadow

Buxom Stay-There Eyeshadows (Part 2)

Buxom Stay-There Eyeshadow ($17.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a cream-gel-mousse formula that’s designed to have a lightweight texture, yield “vivbrant, lively, buildable” color, be waterproof, and long-wearing. Just for fun, Bare Escentuals made a charitable contribution to Canine Companions for Independence when this product launched. They are also exclusive to Sephora. The next five shades I’m reviewing are: Golden Retriever (vibrant copper red), Husky (baby blue), Mutt (bronzed taupe), Poodle (pale yellow gold), and Pug (smoky pewter).

Where to Buy: Sephora, $17.00 each

The Glossover

I like using a really stiff, firm, and flat brush with these, but I’ve had the best luck applying these with fingertips. Once applied Coach Factory Outlet Online, they dry down to a powder finish in just the right time–not instantly but not so long that it’s creased before you’ve finished applying product to the other eye. I’ve tested several shades without primer as washes, including Black Lab, Bulldog, Chihuahua, Collie, Mutt, Pug, Saint Bernard, and Shih Tzu, and I haven’t had any issues with the shades creasing, fading, or smudging. I’ve even worn a few of them during showers to test waterproof claims, and they haven’t budged.

  • Golden Retriever is a warm, slightly red-tinted bronze brown. It can be applied sheer or as mostly opaque color coverage. Benefit Dandy Brandy is slightly darker. Maybelline Bad to the Bronze is darker and less red-toned. Urban Decay YDK is less brown.
  • Husky is a pastel baby blue with a silvery white shimmer. The color coverage can be built to opaque color coverage with ease. MAC Styledriven is slightly darker. Bare Escentuals Illusion is whiter, more aqua. Inglot #367 is similar but matte.
  • Mutt is a muted brown with a gilded bronze sheen. It doesn’t read taupe to me–it’s too warm and golden for that. Like the previous two shades, it can be built to opaque color coverage or applied as a sheer wash of color with less product. Urban Decay Suspect is a little more yellow-toned. MAC Magical Mist is a bit grayer. Urban Decay Juju is less red-toned. Urban Decay Spotlight is lighter.
  • Poodle is a pale yellow gold with a soft, metallic sheen. It, too, can be opaque or sheer, depending on application, but it doesn’t take much product to get opaque color. Tarina Tarantino Wonderful is a little lighter. theBalm Wild Child is very close. Givenchy Lune is also similar. MAC Nylon is slightly whiter.
  • Pug is a dirty gray-brown; it’s kind of taupe, but I feel like it’s too gray to be taupe. It’s such a cool shade, though, and it works well as a wash of color that’s more than just beige or brown. MAC Keep Your Cool is darker, less reflective. Urban Decay Mushroom is similar but a touch darker. Chanel Illusoire is darker, almost more purple-tinted.

According to the brand, these are supposed to have sheer color coverage, but they are buildable to an extent. The five featured in this post are very true to that creed–they can easily be used as a sheer wash of color, but they can also be used opaque by either initially applying more color or by applying a second layer of color on top of the first. Stay-There Eyeshadows have a spongy quality that reminds me of memory foam; you can press it, and it will slowly spring back to form. You can jab at it with a pencil, and you’ll end up shifting it around more than anything! These actually launched well before Chanel Illusion d’Ombres, which have a similar texture.

Go Green For Adrian Grenier

http://coachfactorystore-bag.weebly.com/

They screened the first installment of the documentary in New York last night.  The Big Shft: 10 Innovators Changing Our World was both encouraging—it made us feel pretty good about the forward-thinking sustainable practices in major industries—but also depressing.  How can our industry—where green can feel more like a trend than a lifestyle—latch on long-term?

Photo: SHFT

We posed the question to Grenier. “We’re not experts so we couldn’t make those suggestions, but what we can do is inspire conversations so people think about things differently. You really have to be in the industry I think, but it’s going to require all of us to come together and find new answers.” The answers are out there: H&M’s sustainable capsule collection that hit stores last week, Livia Firth’s Green Carpet Challenge is in its third year, and Suzy Cameron’s working on an entirely organic collection of environmentally sound clothing.

There’s also, of course, the matter of making the right choices, and knowing the consequences of your choices, or as Grenier puts it, “voting with your dollars.”   Specifically, he names brands like Loomstate, Rogan http://coachfactorystore-bag.weebly.com/, and Nau among his favorites and we’ve spotted dozens of environmentally friendly and aesthetically pleasing products on SHFT.com.  Earth Month may end come May 1st http://coachfactorystore-bag.weebly.com/, but there’s no reason to stop considering your effect on the environment.

In honor of Earth Day (this Sunday) Adrian Grenier and filmmaker Peter Glatzer’s sustainable living platform SHFT.com recently teamed up with Ford’s ongoing eco-initiative to produce a film series that’s sort of an anti-An Inconvenient Truth: no scary tactics http://coachfactorystore-bag.weebly.com/, just some creative solutions.

Shailene Woodley Doesn’t Want To Be Your Style Star

Last night Coach Factory Outlet Online, when Sean Penn presented her the Trophee Chopard award for a rising star, she chose a black silk devore velvet Jason Wu gown, before changing into a youthful peach Calvin Klein dress for the brand’s Women In Film celebration (left). But despite her style savvy, she’s hardly a clotheshorse, she tells WWD: “I think it’s ridiculous that the boundaries have been crossed between cinema and fashion. They’re both their own separate art forms. I didn’t start acting in order to wear something beautiful and wear lots of makeup. That’s not why I do this. I do this because I really love being on a film set.” Ideally, it sounds like, she’d rather be in “wild, muddy-all-the-time, no-makeup, no-shoes world,” than “this world, which is high heels and fancy clothes.”

Earlier this year, during the red carpet-heavy awards season tour she embarked for her co-starring (and Golden Globe-nominated) role in The Descendants Coach Factory Outlet Online, Shailene Woodley caught many a style-watcher’s eye. She switched between Dolce & Gabbana suits Coach Factory Outlet Online, minimalist Calvin Klein gowns, and retro-printed Jason Wu sheaths with ease Coach Factory Outlet Online, after all. And now she’s descended on the Cannes Film Festival for the first time.

Christopher Kane Denies Dior Rumors

http://coachfactorystore-bag.weebly.com/

“While it is incredibly flattering that I could be considered for a role at a house such as Dior at this stage in my career http://coachfactorystore-bag.weebly.com/, I can confirm that I have not been approached http://coachfactorystore-bag.weebly.com/,” Kane said earlier today. “I am focused on developing my own label and my ongoing collaboration with Donatella Versace for Versus.”

Just a day after Suzy Menkes suggested that Christopher Kane might be in Dior’s sights http://coachfactorystore-bag.weebly.com/, the designer has shot the possibility down.
